The Blonde Bomber. White Lightning. Bionic Boy. Jaybird. Shide. Whatever you call him…….the man could shoot it from anywhere in the gym. A prolific scorer to say the least and that was without the extra point on many shots that the arc would give him now.
Jay Shidler was a star among stars as a multisport athlete at Lawrenceville High School during a storied era of high school basketball in Illinois. . He gained statewide and national recognition for his record breaking exploits on the basketball court winning championships while playing for legendary coach Ron Felling. Highly recruited by the biggest names in the sport, Jay went on to become a member of basketball royalty when he signed to play basketball for the University of Kentucky Wildcats, and Coach Joe B. Hall and won a national championship in 1978.
